Synopsis:

Every three seconds in the United States, someone is arrested.

According to a 2018 report by the US Department of Justice, this means that over 110 million people currently living and working across the nation have an arrest record with police authorities. That is one in every three Americans.

Building on our ‘Broadcast Awards’ nominated ‘The Accused’ for Channel 5, this series is based in America and follows the lives and legal defences of people who have been arrested and are facing trial for serious crimes. The series is an unprecedented exploration of the emotional and situational challenges involved when your freedom, your reputation, and our family are on the line.

Made for A&E Networks, Accused: Guilty or Innocent? followed six cases across seven episodes. Set in multiple states and featuring a diverse range of contributors charged with serious offences, the series provided the first comprehensive televised documentary portrait of the defence process.

Season 1 ranked both among the top freshman series for A&E and the 2nd best new series in the L+3 fiscal year to date, with the most ethnically diverse audience. Season 2 and 3 is now in production.
